Safety & Shop Skills (HVDD 1035)

Description

This course will provide theory and hands-on training on basic skills and safety. Students will receive detailed training on shop safety such as how to lift heavy material properly, working near electric machinery, different types of fire extinguishers, welding safety, and hand tools. Students will be required to pass a written safety exam before they are allowed to work in the shop. This course will also cover basic computer skills required in a diesel shop. Building a resume and interviewing skills will be covered.
Objectives:
• Identify basic tools.
• Know how to operate different types of fire extinguishers.
• Operate electric machinery (drill press, cut off saws, electric hands drills).
• Basic welding. Learn to use different types of welders.
• Safe handling of batteries.
• The use of measuring instruments.
• Learn how different types of fasteners are used.
