Description

This course introduces students to CNC Mill Operations. Topics include safety, CNC terminology, preparatory steps to run a CNC program, setup and operation of CNC machines, and part production with given programs. Programming and operation topics include use of canned cycles, roughing cycles, sub-programs, and multiple work offsets. Using G & M codes students will machine projects using programs created by the student.. Part production and inspection is emphasized.
Objectives:
• Demonstrate proper workholding, setup, feeds, speeds and chip load for CNC machining
• Demonstrate setting program zero for CNC machines
• Perform manual mode operation, edit mode, MDI (manual data input) and program operation mode
• Apply recognition of program codes to CNC machine operation, create CNC code in G&M format
• Apply knowledge of motion commands of rapid positioning, linear interpolation, and circular interpolation
