Description

This course will provide students with Intermediate skills in the Shield Metal Arc Process. Emphasis on welder qualification on mild steel plate in the 2G, 3G, and 4G positions open root. Students will also learn advanced welding skills on mild steel pipe in the 5G position downhill.
Prerequisites:
Students enrolling in this class must have successfully completed the BATC Welding Technology course, or have equivalent experience in Shielded Metal Arc Processes with evidence of prior weld qualifications in the 1G, 2G, and 3G position on mild steel plate to various welding codes. This is not a beginning or intermediate welding course, advanced welders only!
Objectives:

Welding Safety- students will study welding safety, including but not limited to: Protective clothing, how to set up and use welding equipment and machinery, eye protection, proper exhaust system, being aware of safety related barriers, MSDS data sheets, and follow lockout/tag procedures.
