Description
This course will introduce students to basic metallurgy and heat treat procedures relating to mild steel, high carbon steel, and cast iron. Students will also learn basic electrical AC and DC currents, polarity for welding machines, troubleshooting, and electrical safety.
Objectives:
• Learn steel manufacturing processes.
• Learn metal identification methods.
• Understand face center and bod center cubes.
• Understand proper ventilation.
• Identify transition temperature.
• Describe annealing, quenching, tempering, and normalizing.
• Define cementite, pearlite, ferrite, austenite, and martensite.
• Understand heat treat procedures for carbon and iron based metals.
• Understand stress and strain loads related to weld strength tensile strength, and yield strength.
• AC-DC fundamentals.
• Welder polarity setup.
• Troubleshooting welders and equipment.
• Electrical safety.
